Summary:The economic evaluation of the fluoride reduction for underground water on the basis of actual industrial and economic data was estimated. Electordialysis (ED) was used for water defluoridation. The electrodialysis group was composed of centrifugal pumps, electrical and regulation equipment and an electrodialysis stack. The capital cost included depreciable items such as process equipment, and non-depreciable items such as land and civil works cost. The capital cost for a plant of 2200 m sub(3)/d was estimated to be Euro 833,207. The calculated operating cost was Euro 0.154/m sub(3). It was concluded that the capital and the operating costs calculated on the basis of an adopted model appeared largely lower than those calculated on the basis of the real data.
