Summary:In order to evaluate different leaching procedures, batch extraction tests and percolation tests using three reference materials produced from contaminated soil, demolition waste and municipal solid waste incineration bottom ash were performed. Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in the percolates were generally measured by high performance liquid chromatography. Sulfate and chloride concentration in the leachates were analyzed by anion chromatography. In the column tests, relatively high initial concentrations were observed for all substances investigated in the three reference materials (RMs). Sulfate and chloride releases exhibited a good agreement between column experiments and batch/extraction tests. Cu and Cr release exhibited significant discrepancies and the differences between PAH results exceeded an order of magnitude.
