Summary: | Prospects for low cost opportunities for carbon dioxide capture and storage/sequestration worldwide are examined, stressing that such options should provide for early implementation of projects. The low cost schemes considered combine high purity CO sub(2) gas streams with short transmission distance and potentially profitable CO sub(2) enhanced fossil fuel recovery strategies, such as CO sub(2)-enhanced oil recovery (EOR) and CO sub(2)-enhanced coal bed methane (ECBM) production; both simultaneously sequester CO sub(2). About 420 possible EOR and 79 possible ECBM opportunities were identified worldwide. |
