Summary:Researchers created a new technique for the soil phase microextraction (SPME) of atrazine contained in soil slurries. Following the treatment process, the fibers can be cleaned. This process allows for the sequential extraction of at least 15 samples of soil with a high degree of reproducibility. Data collected during tests of the methodology suggested no relevant interferences based on the use of an EC detector at the lowest concentrations of atrazine tested in this project. Resolution was good, with the methodology following a linear profile for the diverse concentration levels tested in this project. Results from tests of the SPME-GC technique were in close agreement with data from microfiltration-HPLC measurements. Implications for future remediation projects are discussed.
