Summary:Public transportation provides the city dwellers with mobility, cleaner cities and it enables them to construct a sustainable infrastructure as well as to reach educational and employment-related facilities. Therefore, its efficient provision is extremely vital to exploit all the above advantages. This paper aims at finding a suitable fare strategy in public transportation provision. To this end, after presenting information about the current fare strategies, these strategies are evaluated in terms of their potential of meeting actual costs, their fairness and their economic and financial efficiency.
