Summary:Squilla mantis is an important by-catch species in the GSA 9 (Italy; Ligurian Sea and northern Tyrrhenian Sea) bottom trawl fishery. Landing statistics for the period 2004-2010 show a decreasing trend while landings per unit of effort are quite stable. About 30% of the specimens caught are discarded. The size frequency distribution of the catch shows an uni-modal shape, with the smallest individuals discarded and the larger ones commercialised.
