Summary:Iron, zinc, lead and manganese were determined by AAS in different size fractions of rain collected using the Guttalgor. The dependence of the concentration of each metal on drop radius is depicted. Concentrations of iron and zinc increased with decreasing drop size. Concentrations of manganese and lead exhibited maxima at a drop size of approximately 0.5 mm. The 2 dependencies were attributed to different scavenging mechanisms associated with different sized aerosols. The influence of chemical reactions in raindrops is considered including the oxidation of sulphur dioxide.
