Summary:Age and growth of the bluefish, Pomatomus saltatrix (Linnaeus, 1766) (Osteichthyes, Pomatomidae), have been studied in eastern Ligurian Sea (Italy) by means of both modal progression analysis and otoliths reading. Specimens have been collected from both commercial and recreational fishing. A relatively fast growth rate was observed. No significant differences were found between the two methods as well as between sexes.
