Summary:At the end of the 15th century in Italy, lovely boxes ornamented with relief decor made of white paste (pastiglia) succeeded small ivory or boiled leather boxes. These objects unique to Italy whose precise means of fabrication is unknown, became the infatuation of elites, despite the modesty of the materials employed. In France, the National museum of the Renaissance has conserved a very important group of these, of which eight remarkable examples were recently restored. [Publication transcript]
