Summary:Modularization engineering is the mechanical design, logistics and construction of a plant through individual modules that represent parts of the industrial plant. The modules are made offsite with all the high technology in appropriated place with all manufacturing facilities available. After fabrication offsite, the modules are transported to the site in order to be inter-connected with each other. The technology of modular construction of industrial plant is adequate where there are severe onsite conditions, reduced local infrastructure and subject to environmental licensing, which can occur in iron ore mines, oil platforms, and other industrial plants. This methodology of construction is very attractive because implies in shorter project duration and reduction of project costs. In this context this paper presents a review of the fundamentals of Modularization addressing the benefits, modules type, transportation, guidelines for viability of a modularization project and a case study.
