To celebrate International Women's Day, Maddocks discusses women composers, going back to the 12C with Hildegard of Bingen. The other composers cited are Judith Weir, Anna Meredith, Lili Boulanger, Unsuk Chin, Fanny Mendelssohn, Roxanna Panufnik, Clara Schumann and Jocelyn Pook. A number of young British women composers are also profiled, such as Kerry Andrew, Charlotte Bray and Sasha Siem.
