Summary:Class is a kind of energy that radiates through British society. While most know that class exists, there has been a political consensus for nearly a generation that it is not useful as an electoral tool. The class system as it was perceived for most of the 20C relied on stable relationships among job, social status and income. People's workplace correlated reliably to a position in a social and cultural hierarchy. Now it is more likely to be seen through the lens of consumer market fragments.
