Summary:Analyzing the topography and the monuments of the S-W area of the Necropolis, we here demonstrate the importance of the ancient acropolis, now almost forgotten. It is, in fact, necessary to make a distinction between the buildings constructed on the south slope of that hill and the suburban sanctuary. The different pieces of architectural terracottas presented here, with some examples extant also in stone, were found in the acropolis and agora areas. These allow us to speculate about their imported provenance and to date some of them to the late Archaic period. This in turn demonstrates that during the second half of the sixth century B.C. some buildings of religious function were built in the Neapolis. Moreover, these edifices constitute the first examples of the "tiled roof" system in the far western Mediterranean. [Publication abstract]
