Summary:Individuals believe that their health is controlled by internal or external factors, and perceive that distress/type D personality is associated with a socially unsupportive environment. The present study had the objectives of assessing health locus of control and type D personality of depressed and non- depressed males. Retrospective design was used to measure health locus of control and type D personality of the depressed patients by using psychological scales. Thirty Three patients with depressive disorders and 33 normal subjects were the selected for this study. Health locus of control and type D personality scales were administered to the patients and normal subjects. Demographic variables such as age, religion, income, education, and occupation were collected from the patients. Percentage, t-test were used for analyzing and interpreting the obtained data. Results showed that the depressed patients low internal locus of control and low social inhibition than the non depressed males. The depressed and non depressed males differed significantly in internal control and external control of health locus of control. The former group had more social inhibition and negative affectivity in type D personality. The depressed and non depressed males differed significantly in social inhibition and negative affectivity of type D personality. The depressed males had low internal control and external control of health locus of control than and non depressed males. The depressed patients had high social inhibition, and high negative affectivity of type D personality than the non depressed males who came for treatment to the hospital. The depressed and non depressed males differed significantly in health locus of control and type D personality The present findings could help the planners to develop intervention for improving health locus of control and type D personality of depressed males.
