Summary:The purpose of this paper is to report on a one-day international conference on getting value for money from e-learning products and systems, organized by the eLearning Network, a community-interest company which is a key source for guidance on best practice and future trends in technology-based learning and development at work. The paper details the contributions of Cathy Moore, a specialist in using technology to help people to learn, Stuart Chadwick, of e-learning solution provider Kineo, and Matthew Lloyd, managing director of the e-learning solutions provider Omniplex. The paper reports that Matthew Lloyd welcomed the trend to use rapid-authoring tools to produce learning content in-house by subject-matter experts, rather than outsourcing the process to specialist instructional designers, but warned of a number of possible pitfalls. The paper describes what Cathy Moore considers to be the ideal order in which to address a learning project.
