Summary:The experience of gender is unique to each individual. Transgender individuals, due to their gender minority status, are subject to marginalization, isolation, and discrimination, leading to negative outcomes such as difficulty in achieving gender congruence and psychological well-being. The present study aims to examine the role of congruence in psychological well-being of transgenders and also to understand their transitional experiences through a qualitative approach. The sample for the present study comprised of 100 transgenders between the age range of 27 - 33 years. Correlation was applied to study the relationship between psychological well-being and congruence. It was found that congruence and psychological well-being are positively correlated. Further, it was found that the transitional phase for the respondents is the hardest. Due to the associated stigma with the gender minority status, they experience abuse as well as rejection from the family and society which impacts their sense of congruence and psychological well-being adversely.
