Summary:The thesis discusses the importance of sugar beet as a food supply for common voles and selected mice species (Apodemus spp.), which represent the most common rodent species in the stands of this crop. Sugar beet quality was determined using chemical analyses with a focus on the nitrogen content and comparison with other agricultural crops (spring and winter barley, winter wheat, alfalfa, rapeseed). The results showed a high proportion of nitrogen, especially in the leaves, and less in the tuber. The highest amount of nitrogen was found in alfalfa in the spring, while in the summer the proportion of nitrogen was lower than in alfalfa, comparable to winter rape and higher than in cereals. Based on literary sources, the article discusses the importance of beet leaves and tubers in the diet of mice and voles, as well as the importance of other food sources in sugar beet stands. In the common vole, the important food component is mainly the tubers, and less so the leaves. In the diet of mice, tubers and beet leaves were also recorded, but in a completely insignificant percentage. In sugar beet stands, mice maintain high numbers mainly by eating weed seeds and invertebrates.
