Summary: | Irvine reports that this year's Music on the Mountain viol workshop will be held in Dahlonega, Georgia from Feb 22-25. Music on the Mountain always formally begins with a large ensemble session Friday evening led by the faculty. They attend three small consort classes Saturday, a faculty concert followed by a reception Saturday evening, and two classes on Sunday morning. This year they played everything from sixteenth-century works on Renaissance viols (by John Pringle) to madrigals and fantasias on Jacobean viols. A big highlight for them was on Sunday morning when eleven Renaissance viols led by Alison played the two-choir work by Alessandro Striggio, Ecce beata lucem. |
