Summary:Norway's University of Bergen has awarded an Honorary Doctorate to Lynn Meskell, a Penn Museum Curator specializing in the Near East and Asia Sections. The recognition is for Meskell's contributions to research ethics, global cultural heritage, materiality, feminist theory, and post-colonial theory. These areas of scholarship are increasingly important in the management of natural and cultural heritage, the treatment of Indigenous people, and the field of human rights. Meskell is also a Penn Integrates Knowledge (PIK) Professor in the Department of Anthropology and the Weitzman School of Design. She has been featured in Expedition magazine and recently discussed the protection of historic places during times of conflict at NATO. Meskell has received honorary professorships from the University of Oxford, University of Liverpool, Shiv Nadar University, and the University of the Witwatersrand in South Africa.
