Summary:Introduction: Timely detection of gestational diabetes and initiation of treatment is important for fetal development. Objective: to evaluate the effect of the intervention on birth weight. Method: an intervention study was carried out on a specific population of pregnant women, using a cluster randomized controlled trial design. Results: A total of 215 (73.4%) women were included in the trial, 120 (77.4%) women at the intervention sites and 95 (68.8%) women at the control sites. Conclusions: the prevalence of GDM in pregnant women is high and would require a detection and management approach that allows early interventions through a primary level of care
