Summary:Obesity is emerging as rising epidemic health risks and had direct impaction on lower limbs by mechanics as it increasing joint reactive forces which accelerate the degenerative process in the knee. Excessive joint loading in obese patients is thought to alter gait and movement strategies, resulting in joint malalignment and cartilage degeneration. Osteoarthritis is the most common chronic musculoskeletal disorder. It is the leading cause of activity limitation among working-age adults and is associated with a significant decline in function among older individuals. Trauma causing a microfracture or inflammation causing a slight increase in enzymatic activity may allow the formation of wear particles, which could be then engulfed by resident macrophages. Once significant bone loss or ligamentous laxity is detected, total knee arthroplasty (TKA) may be seriously considered despite the potential drawbacks.Several factors such as age and weight need to be considered prior to proceeding with TKA. There is no standard regarding the severity of symptoms in the indication of TKA because the decision to pursue TKA is partially subjective on the basis of the patient's response to non-operative treatment. This study aimed to review morbid obese patients who undergo Primary TKA and its complication.
