Summary:Under the New Southbound Policy, the teacher education universities in Taiwan cooperate with Malaysian Chinese Independent Secondary Schools (MCISSs) for internationalization of teacher education. Taiwan has become the most important country for independent secondary school teachers to obtain their highest qualifications overseas. This study aims to compare the differences in the professional development needs between the teachers of MCISSs in Malaysia and those of senior high schools in Taiwan. Questionnaires and interviews were conducted for data collection. Results show that the professional development needs of Malaysia are different from those of Taiwan, reflecting that the contextual influence at national level and school cultural level on professional development needs. Therefore, how to design international curriculum to fulfill different needs by different learners' backgrounds, and effectively improve professional knowledge is a challenge for internationalization of teacher education.
