Summary: | "1 - Vyacheslav Polonski, UX1 researcher for Google and founder of data science agency Avantgarde Analytics, in September 2018 Introduction In June 2019, American multinational technology company International Business Machines Corporation (IBM)'s business unit, IBM Watson Health2, in association with its partners, unveiled 22 new scientific studies at the American Society of Clinical Oncologists3 (ASCO) annual meeting in Chicago, demonstrating the progress made in providing clinical decision support using artificial intelligence (Al) for cancer care across the world. .5 Watson won the first prize of $ 1 mn beating Kenneth Wayne Jennings III6 (Jennings) and Bradford Gates Rutter.7 Watson had the ability to interpret queries in natural language and used advanced analytics and a powerful array of processors that could search 200 million of pages and deliver an answer in just 3 s.vl Sensing the potential in Watson, IBM aimed to commercialize it. [...]in 2012, the company partnered with New York-based cancer treatment center and research organization Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK) to develop Watson as Al software that could provide medical professionals with improved access to up-to-date and comprehensive cancer data and practices regardless of where a patient was living or the physician was practising. A May 2019 report by American market research company Forrester Research Inc. (Forrester) revealed that data quality was among the biggest challenges faced by an Al project. According to Forrester Analyst Michele Goetz (Goetz), companies carrying out Al projects lacked an expert understanding of the kind of data needed for Machine Learning9 (ML) models and struggled to prepare data that could be beneficial for these systems. |
