Summary:In addition to his scholarly papers, he drew together what he had learned about the ways East Africans make peace and put it in this book in the form of a story-the walking journey of an elderly nomad, Alama, sent by the apparition of an Oracle to search for the Source of Peace. In the second half of the book, Alama's trek took him to places dominated by a government in league with oil-corporations, greedy for power and wealth, dripping with contempt for the "backward" ways of tribes such as Alama's. P 68-71] And so it is in this book, not the language of moderns, a language of spirit and body, an evocation of dream to an analyst, an evocation of the deep unconscious. The book is written in the language of Alama's strides, their length and rhythm, the change of strides with different walking sticks, his body's sensations in response to the natural world all around him.
