Summary: | Originating at the Thomas Cole National Historic Site in Catskill, New York, Women Reframe American Landscape is a two-part exhibition including Susie Barstow & Her Circle and Contemporary Practices, which expands the narrative surrounding nineteenth-century women landscape painters and places them in conversation with contemporary artists. Addressing/redressing the historical gap that has traditionally written women out of this genre, Susie Barstow Her Circle is not only the first retrospective of Barstow's work, but is also the first retrospective by any woman landscape painter of the Hudson River School. Women Reframe American Landscape: Susie Barstow Her Circle I Contemporary Practices is on view through October 29, 2023, at the Thomas Cole National Historic Site Catskill, New York. |
