Summary:Evelyn Hofer: Eyes on the City is on view at the High Museum of Art in Atlanta, Georgia, August 13, 2023. Hofer was a highly innovative photographer whose prolific career spanned five decades. Despite her extraordinary output--eight photobooks, numerous photo essays, and hundreds of prints touching on a wide range of subjects--and broad distribution of her photographs, she was underrecognized during her lifetime. Working with a large-format camera and often with color film, Hofer made her greatest impact through a series of photobooks published between 1959 and 1967 devoted to American and European cities as well as the country of Spain.
