Summary:Revision of the Course of Study in 2017 created a need to revise lesson plans for units in the Physical Fitness domain. Accordingly, plans were designed for exercise-specific units and implemented at a junior high school in Tokyo. One of the main challenges being faced by the schools is the lack of teaching materials for fitness exercises; an attempt was made to develop video-based materials for this purpose. The following findings were obtained: (1) high values emerged in formative class evaluations conducted to assess class outcomes; (2) in the questionnaire, students stated opinions such as experiencing a “sense of accomplishment” in trying and succeeding to perform “movements I had never done before”. In an interview, the class teacher reported that video-based teaching materials were very effective for junior high school educators who are experiencing problems in the Physical Fitness domain. The findings indicated that the development of lessons for exercise-specific units were an effective way to plan for Physical Fitness classes.
