Summary:Steel pipe interiors rely on protective coatings to prevent corrosion. This interior lining requires maintenance to retain its corrosion protection properties, such as spot repairing damaged areas of the lining. Occasionally, the lining must be fully removed and replaced. Coating maintenance within these structures is challenging because the steel pipes are confined spaces and oJten have limited access above-ground. Also, for several reasons, the frequency and costs of coating maintenance are increasing. Here, Merten et al predict future relining costs for maintenance activities---whether spot repair, partial relining or full relining.
