Summary:In order to evaluate the health and well-being of the animals in this study, the aim was to compare the results of biochemical and hematological parameters of laboratory animals raised in SPF (Specific Pathogen Free) conditions with those working on conventional experimental premises. The results obtained showed that there are no statistically significant differences between the animals housed in SPF conditions and those housed in conventional conditions or in the experimental areas, which demonstrates the maintenance of normal health status. The hematological and biochemical determinations are required to be performed periodically to check the welfare of the laboratory animal heards in the Băneasa Animal Facility, aiming both to obtain reference values at the facility level and to demonstrate the welfare conditions of the animals in the experiments. This is an important step in the development of an accredited preclinical testing unit.
