Summary:This paper is focused on the referential analysis of a study aimed at revealing the social representations of a group of women on domestic violence. Eight women, who had sought help at a State Family Center (Comisaría de Familia) due to gender violence, were thoroughly interviewed. A qualitative research based on an analysis of these women’s speeches especially in the referential analysis about their life stories was carried out. The results show that social representations on domestic violence are consolidated in control and disempowering mechanisms present in the couples’ violence dynamics which arise in the women’s subgroups and are a factor that helps to their own construction and reproduction.
