Summary:To achieve high yields and high-quality roots, sugar beet has high requirements for both macro and micronutrients. Nitrogen fertilizers are usually applied in the soil before sowing in spring. Nitrates are not only present in the environment, i.e. in the air, food (mostly in fruits and vegetables) and water but they are also are used as fertilizers in agriculture. Nitrogen also affects the quality of beet roots, and both the leaves and petioles of sugar beet are important in determining the dynamics and nutritional status of the plants. Nitrate determination is also important when sugar beet leaves and tops are used as fodder. This article describes general determination of nitrate in sugar beet leaves (Refletoquant and CFA).
