Summary: | Although there are leadership programs in the higher education sector, most of them are elitist leadership models and rigorous evaluation is not common. With reference to the emerging leadership needs in the service economy, the Victor and William Fung Foundation initiated a program to support the universities funded by the Hong Kong SAR Government to develop Service Leadership education programs and curricula materials. In this paper, we introduce the background and nature of the "Fung Service Leadership Initiative" and the "Hong Kong Institute of Service Leadership and Management (HKI-SLAM)." We also present the work done by the eight universities. With particular reference to The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, we examined the evaluation findings supporting the Service Leadership education initiative. Finally, the contributions of the Fung Service Leadership Initiative and future challenges are described. |
