Schools have a responsibility to prepare students for success in life after high school, including college, career, and life. Schools have traditionally been immersed in a curriculum focused on students meeting core educational standards for all curricular areas through a predetermined curriculum for each individual subject in a one-size-fits-all approach. While this may be successful for some students, the purpose of this research was to ascertain how a personalized learning framework can enhance the learning of students in secondary school settings. Specifically, identifying the key tenets for successful personalized learning systems for educators is identified in the research, the challenges faced by educators in personalized learning systems, the core skills attained by learners is shared, along with the comprehensive benefits of learners who experience personalized systems are focused on in the case study research. The findings identified many benefits of personalized learning, and essential components to successful personalized learning systems, along with three main themes for personalized learning systems. These themes included redefining the learning process, learning skills beyond the core curricular areas, and creating lasting learning experiences for students. This study contributes to the existing knowledge of personalized learning, and barriers to changes in secondary schools. Additionally, the research findings provide critical information and direction for administrators, teachers, and those in teacher and administrator preparation programs. |
