Summary: | Audra Eagle Yun, Head of Special Collections & Archives at the University, of California, Irvine and the principal investigator for "Transforming Knowledge/Transforming Libraries," a three-year IMLS Laura Bush 21st Century Librarian Program research grant project to explore the gap between ethnic studies theory and community archives practice, reflects on being taught by US Poet Laureate Natasha Trethewey and how that experience shaped her work in defense of community based archives. Picking up on NCOBPS long contributions to the founding and expansion of Race and Ethnic Politics and Latino Politics our Book Reviews continue to evidence a longstanding and sincere intellectual curiosity about developments in these cutting edge and independent areas of inquiry toward evaluating the possibilities and constraints on political coalition building. State-level demographic changes and their impact on presidential elections and political finance regulation and the lack thereof remain as critical features of citizen perceptions of access to substantive democracy. |
