Summary:The object of the work was to formulate and evaluate sustained release matrix pellet of Losartan potassium using extrusion–spheronization technique. In the present study two different hydrophobic polymers were used such as HPMC K4M and Ethyl cellulose. The present study was evaluated for FTIR, pre evaluation, post evaluation, moisture test, swelling test and SEM. The pre evaluation characteristic study shows satisfactory result. The FTIR study shows there was no interaction between the drug and excipients. The percentage drug loading, drug entrapment was found to be in a range of 24.52±0.71 to 26.01 ± 0.24 and 48.26± 1.52 to 52.64 ± 0.92. the moisture content and swelling studies was found in a range between 1.16± 0.032 to 1.23± 0.11, 26 ± 0.12 to 31± 1.52 .the surface morphology shows smooth surface and uniform particle size range between 2.12 ± 0.11 to 2.54 ± 0.42mm. Sustained release matrix pellet shows prolonged release of drug there by therapeutic concentration of drug was maintained.
