Summary:The effect of education and counseling Services given to the primipara mothers during postpartum period on infant care, anxiety level and role of motherhoodThe purpose of this study is to determine the effect of scheduled education and counseling Services given to the primipara mothers about postpartum infant care, the role of motherhood and anxiety level. This study was planned as a control group research model with pre-post test and it was conducted inDepartment of Pediatrics of Gülhane Military Medical FacultyThe sample of the research consists of 76 primipara mothers (42 control groups-36 study groups ). A Form for Descriptive Charecteristics and The Level of Knowledge of MotherAbout İnfant Care, What Being The Parent of A Baby Is Like Scale, and State-Trait Anxiety Inventory were used while collecting data. Counseling service and education about postpartum infant care was arranged for mothers until baby finished the third month. Most of the mothers in the studyand control groups (73.7%) have never had infant care experience before, and 68.4% of the mothers have not received postpartum discharge education. The post- training information points about baby care of the mothers in the studygroup was found to be higher compared to the control group and the difference between them was found to be statistically meaningful (t=15.163; pL<001). İn the first three months state anxiety level of the mothers in the experimental group decreased significantly compared to the mothers in the control group (Day 7: :40.18; Month 1: :34.79; Month 3: :29.97). Providing individualized, continuous and collaborative training and counseling approach to women in postpartum period, optimal infant care can be provided, anxiety of mothers can be reduced and adaptation of mothers to their new roles can be easier.
