Summary:Electronic voting (e-voting) can make the election process very efficient and voters' lives much easier during it. However, meeting the security requirements of electronic voting, such as confidentiality, integrity, and privacy, while minimizing its costs is a daunting task. E-voting systems are highly vulnerable to various kinds of attacks and often require expensive security enhancements, which can prevent their use in small and mid-sized organizations or elections. Therefore, we propose a new cost-effective, XML-based evoting system that can be used in small and mid-sized elections. The new approach uses emerging and affordable XML encryption standards, such as super encryption and XML-based digital signatures, to enhance the confidentiality and integrity of e-voting.
