Summary: | [...]in this abusive and informal residential fabric, can still be recognized some rule: first of all, the houses are always built far from the perimeter of the lots, not easily visible from the street; while on the other hand, the property walls are always placed at the limit of the lots, to completely use their depth for private gardens; finally, the road system is almost always orthogonal, and the lots are very long. [...]our research has tried to trigger in an unplanned periphery some settlement processes typical of the contemporary urban project. In case the owners would not be interested in building, we suggest the use of tax relief mechanisms for all those who would substitute the fences with walls, to make at least the boundary line of the lots a continuous sign, able to make an urban front. Because the equilibrium between horizontal and vertical development is possible only when low density fabric reaches a critical mass sufficient to sustain, we would say, the strong figurative presence of the extra-scalar densifying elements. [...]it has already been said that the present work has chosen as case-study a specific zone in the periphery of Rome; to overcome this limit, the project tried to establish a taxonomy of architectural "parts", bond to a series of very clear strategic "actions". |
