Summary:The quality of higher education involves raising levels of competitiveness, meeting international standards. The proposed objective is to evaluate the processes of evaluation and accreditation in university education in the Ecuadorian context. In Ecuador, the higher education system has been making changes in order to achieve excellence and comply with current international standards; allowing improvements in the quality of teaching and learning. The structure of the evaluation model in Ecuador is determined by six evaluation criteria. The rigor in the evaluation process of higher education in Ecuador has allowed an improvement and the increase of institutions evaluated in category A and B, as well as a decrease in the lower categories.
