Summary:Objective. To assess the changes in IgG4 levels associated with childhood allergic respiratory disease. Material and methods. A prospective study was carried out to compare the IgG4 levels in a group of children with allergic respiratory disease (n= 169) and a control group (n= 130), both ranging in age from one month to 13 years. The statistical analysis consisted of descriptive statistics and comparative statistics involving the comparison of means using Welch´s test and Student's test. Results. The mean IgG4 level in the group with allergic respiratory disease was 25.86 mg/dL, versus 13.89 mg/dL in the control group. The children with allergic respiratory disease presented higher IgG4 levels than the controls (p < 0.001). Conclusions. The results obtained suggest the existence of a relationship between IgG4 subclass and allergic respiratory disease. The assessment of IgG4 levels may be useful in the diagnosis of allergic disorders.
