Summary:We report the case of a 13-year-old boy who was admitted to our hospital complaining of abdominal pain and nausea that had begun approximately 24 hours earlier. Physical examination and laboratory tests revealed clear signs of hemolysis. After the initial supportive treatment, further hematologic studies were performed, resulting in a final diagnosis of glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency. The patient and his family later recalled that he had eaten broad beans for the first time the day before the symptoms started. [PUBLICATION ABSTRACT]
