In this article some of the current debates regarding ethics in psychotherapy research are presented. First, the ethical difficulties of undertaking the double role of psychotherapist and researcher are examined and the most relevant issues regarding confidentiality and publication of clinical vignettes are discussed. Then, the use of control groups in efficacy and effectiveness research is analyzed and the ethical implications of using placebo, proven treatment, and treatment as usual (TAU) and no treatment (i.e. waiting lists) as controls are described. Finally, different types of ethical committees are presented and the need for the development of such committees is sustained. Guidelines for the development of these committees and the relevant contents of research protocols are presented. A draft for an application form to be presented to ethical comities in order to obtain approval for research projects is included in the appendix. En el presente artículo se plantean algunos de los debates éticos actuales en relación a la investigación en psicoterapia. En primer lugar se analizan algunas de las implicancias en relación al doble rol de investigador y de terapeuta. Se presentan los aspectos éticos más relevantes relacionados con los cuidados de la confidencialidad de los datos de los sujetos participantes y la publicación de viñetas clínicas. En segundo lugar se aborda el tema del uso de grupo control en los diseños para evaluar eficacia y efectividad. Se explicitan las problemáticas éticas de los cuatro tipos de grupos control utilizados: placebo, tratamiento de efectividad comprobada, tratamiento usual (TAU por sus siglas en inglés) y ningún tratamiento (e,g, listas de espera). Por último, se presentan los diferentes tipos de comités de ética involucrados en la evaluación de la investigación en psicoterapia, se discute sobre la necesidad de incorporar sistemas de evaluación para la investigación en Psicología, también se presentan las pautas para la conformación de los comités, sus procedimientos y los contenidos básicos de los protocolos de evaluación para los proyectos de investigación en psicoterapia.
