Summary: | The issue, however has been grasped in full entirety with the book Virgin forests in Bulgaria, dealing with unique preserved forest communities in Bulgaria, prepared in cooperation with the Royal Dutch Society for Nature Protection, providing with the results of the team research carried out in 2002-2005. There are also presented very important Criteria for selection and assessment of Virgin Forests: for example, Forest naturalness (only slight traces of human activity at least some 40-50 years ago), Minimum area (deciduous forest - 30 ha, coniferous forest - 20 ha, mixed forest - 25 ha), Age structure, Natural boundaries (buffer zones in lowlands and low situated localities must be 50-100 m at least) and Stages of the inventory. |
