Summary:A differential D-dot sensor with open fan-shaped structure is designed on the basis of symmetric circular closed structure. It not only maintains good measurement accuracy and dynamic range, but is also convenient to be installed. The sensor' s capacitance characteristics were calculated by ANSOFT Maxwell simulation software based on the finite-element analysis method, and its characteristics, for example, slight electric field distortion and high insulation margin, were also verified by analyzing the electric field distribution in the directions of sensor and non-sensor. After the sensors were finished, steady and transient performance tests were conducted under 10 kV-voltage,and the results show that the sensor not only remains small waveform distortion and phase error when measuring the steady state voltage, but also has a good tracking ability for a variety of transient waveforms, keeping satisfactory performance under different work conditions.
