The couple must have had the necessary carnal relations, because here the kids are, cursing at each other, and it almost leads you to think that maybe there was a time in this house, before they replaced the hot water heater and the furnace, when a young man thought only of coming home, thought only of what his young wife would be wearing, and he thought about her thighs and her breasts, how turned on she was going to be, and he knew that he was lucky that a woman who looked like this loved him, because he had done little to deserve being loved by anyone, but she loved him, in this brief interval, and so the children were born, and after that she never did a goddamned thing for him, nor he for her.
