Summary: | Mednikarov features the 'N. Vaptsarov' Naval Academy, the first technical school in Bulgaria founded as early as in 1881. In its 127-year old history, the naval academy has always been guided by positive creative forces instilled in its roots to which it has successfully overcome the challenges of time and has become the leading training institution for maritime education and science in the country over the centuries. These generative forces, underlying all achievements of the Bulgarian maritime idea, are focused within the three pillars: training and science; hierarchic command and academic spirit; and integrated maritime training for both navy and merchant marine personnel. These three pillars symbolize wisdom and creativity. As a guiding light they have traced the historical route and the true course for training Bulgarian seafarers. From the first engine school until the present-day Naval Academy this establishment combines the intellect and the tradition of generations of Bulgarian seamen. |
