Summary: | This special issue of Sculpture Journal is dedicated to the work of the Basque sculptor Eduardo Chillida (1924-2002). Although well known across Europe for his monumental abstract works, Chillida is still relatively little known in Britain. He first made trips here in 1962 to study the Parthenon frieze sculptures at the British Museum. This special issue, which is entitled 'Chillida in context', also aims to give readers a better sense of Chillida's work and the ideas that have changed it over a number of decades, in order to appreciate more fully his particular contribution to sculptural space and the field of large-scale public sculpture more generally. |
