Summary: | Total productive maintenance (TPM) describes a synergistic relationship among all organizational functions, particularly between production and maintenance, for continuous improvement of product quality, operational efficiency, capacity assurance, and safety. Total quality management (TQM) is an approach to continuous improvement that involves all levels of an organization. Both TQM and TPM are processes that are geared to make a company more competitive. Many of the tools and measurement systems used in successful TQM processes are also put to use in the TPM process. The most fundamental tool that is both absolutely necessary, but not widely used, is the development of operator participation. The true power in both TPM and TQM is using the knowledge and experience of all workers to generate ideas and contribute to the goals and objectives of the company. |
