Evolution Rules and Spatial Features of Traditional Settlements in Fukou Xing Region

Jingxi Ancient Road in Beijing, Feihu Pass near Wei County in Zhangjiakou City, Jing Xing in Jingxing County of Shijiazhuang City, and Fukou Xing near Fengfeng Mine in Handan City. [...]taking Fukou Xing Region as the study area, and traditional settlements and the surrounding environment as research objects, we studied the site selection, distribution, and spatial characteristics of the traditional settlements under the special geographical environment of Xing pass. 1 Spatial evolution of Fukou Xing ancient pass 1.1Historical evolution In the historical literature, as a place name, Fukou Xing first appeared in the records of military activities. [...]we used the time and space information of these 280 settlements as the preliminary samples to study the distribution characteristics on a large scale (Fig-8). According to Fig-9, in general, settlements of Fukou Xing Region are relatively concentrated along the ancient road, but there are regional distribution differences. ф The most densely distributed area is the southwestern part of Wu'an City, where the contour lines are not dense and the terrain is relatively flat. ф The settlements in She County are concentrated in the west, and along the Qingzhang River in the northwest-southeast direction, vertically intersecting the ancient road, and separated from the most concentrated areas in Wu'an. ф Settlements of Fengfeng mining area are obviously distributed along the ancient road. ф The distribution of the settlements in Ci County is not closely connected with the ancient road, but much closely connected with Zhang River and Fuyang River. © Compared with the administrative divisions in the eastern plains, the districts of She County, Wu'an and Ci County (including Fengfeng mining area) located in the Taihang Mountains are larger.
