Summary:The Uzsa basalt quarry (one of the largest still-active basalt quarry in Hungary) is located on the Láz Hill (367 m) in the northen part of the Tapolca Basin. The yield rock of Uzsa is basalt, the product of the Upper Pliocene basalt volcanism. The pyroclastic rocks inferred to locate on horizontally bedded Neogene siliciclastic units. The lava flows in the quarry wall expose multiple flow units. The basanitic rocks is in general vertically jointed with a few dm-wide columns. In the quarry based on the petrophysical parameters were segregated three types of basalt (fresh, sunburn and coccolitic basaslt). This paper is introduced the mineralogical and petrological investigations of the three types of basalt. Based on the detail investigation we tryed to explain the cause of the variances.
